I can't confirm nor deny validity of this story but here it is…
I’m sure most of you have heard about the ghost detection apps that you can download to your phones and tablets. A lot of them have an EVP function that allows the user to hear the words of the dead. In the hands of professional paranormal investigators the apps are supposedly, useful ghost hunting tools but now every “Tom, Dick, and Harry” are downloading them, they pose a threat to those who aren’t familiar with the “Dangers” of amateur Ghost hunting as 19 year old Debbie (Family Name unknown) from Leeds in England found out. She had downloaded the app to entertain her friend’s at a Halloween gathering at her local pub that was rumoured to be Haunted. It wasn't long before the app registered a “ghostly" presence and started saying words that were familiar to their surroundings. Debbie’s friends started to get a little spooked and decided to call it a night, but Debbie was absolutely fascinated by her new toy and kept the app going after the night had ended. She found the app comforting. It made her feel less lonely even though she still lived with her Mother. From the minute she awoke in mornings to the time she went to bed, she would have the app open on her phone. She had to hear every single word it generated incase it was somehow related to her actions or thoughts. Her social life dwindled as her friends grew tired of the obsession she had with the app. After she lost her job because she could not focus on her work, her Mother forced her to delete the app. But Debbie could still hear it. She tried to to ignore it thinking it was her imagination due to it being with her for so long but she could still hear the robotic sounding voice of the app saying random words every few seconds. After a while, the voices slowly started to take on a more human sound. It was as if someone was standing right behind her, mumbling words into her ear. Soon it became more than one voice and she couldn’t escape it no matter what she did. She began to get paranoid, felt she was being watched all the time, and didn’t undress or shower for weeks. She tried earplugs, headphones, and making as much noise as possible- but nothing worked. Her Mother pleaded with her to see a Doctor, but she refused in fear that they would have her committed. The voices began to take on a more sinister tone. She was physically and mentally exhausted by this time from lack of sleep, and couldn’t think straight anymore. She completely snapped. Hands shaking She picked up a knitting needle from her Mother's Wool basket and forced the sharp end of it down into her ear canal. The pain must have been excruciating. Blood trickled down here neck but she was determined to finished the job so she thrust it down into her other ear until she couldn’t hear the voices anymore. Her Mother rang for help when she came home to find Debbie past out on the living room floor. When Debbie woke up a few hours later in the hospital, all she could see around her were shadowy figures waving their hands in front her face and pointing at her as if to mock her for her actions. She started screaming uncontrollably. The Doctors had her committed to the local psychiatric hospital where she remains to this day. It was reported that a few weeks later, she somehow obtained and concealed a plastic spoon into her room, she then proceeded gouge her own eyes out with it. The Emergency team stated that she was unresponsive but conscious - repeatedly muttering the words "They're touching me..."
